Sometime around over 150 years ago Levi Strauss manufactured it’s now world renowned jeans for gold miners for the sole purpose of their comfort and flexibility and later on; its trademark denim overalls. Those same pair of denim went on to evolve into the Levi 501’s, the best-selling clothing material ever.
The Birth of the fashion Industry:
Ideas and needs changed, and somewhere along those 150 years people didn’t just want comfort, they wanted to look good and around the same time the question arose; “Where’d you get those?” and thus the fashion industry was born.
But the helm of the industry was not driven only by Levi Strauss. In fact the person who can be credited for its birth and the person whose gender is now in complete command of it was the creator of the little black dress later worn by Audrey Hepburn as her signature look, better known by her nickname, Coco Chanel.
The Coco Factor:
Miss Coco overlooked a complete overhaul of how women dress from the overdone and redundant corset look to a more elegant and sophisticated fashion. Yet at the same time she kept things casual, which was to become a staple of how women dress for a long time, some comment that her influence is never to be forgotten.
With the arrival of the mid-20th century and 21st century, it was clear that Coco’s influence was long lasting as more and more designers and brands popped up focusing mainly on how women dress, such as Armani, Givenchy, Dolce and Gabbana, Forever 21 and Victoria’s Secret .
Men’s fashion never received much limelight because of how limited it’s field is, because honestly there’s only so many times you can re-design a t-shirt.
A touch of class:
But it’s not always about who designs the outfit, but more about who wears it. Adriana Lima, Kathy Ireland, Gisele Bündchen, Cindy Crawford, Tyra Banks are women who have become household names today. Whatever they wear, either it be a Victoria’s Secret lingerie or sport a Louis Vuitton handbag or Steve McQueen shoes, they make everyone want to wear those clothes. These women collectively are worth over 950 million dollars and it’s safe to say that many have constructed their own industries. But new talent is always recognized and new faces such as Cara Delevingne, Miranda Kerr and thanks to the fame they’re earned through modeling. They are no longer only just models, taking their looks and style to Hollywood, a place where what you wear can become headlining news. And it becomes no clearer when entire TV shows are dedicated to discussing what a certain actress wore to a certain event.
It’s all about you:
But you don’t have to be a model, actress or music icon to look good. With a range as complex as the women herself to choose from, you can work any combination and get yourself noticed or just make yourself feel good. That Dior dress is just a dress. When you wear it, it’s a statement. That Harry Winston gold bracelet will only shine once it is on your wrist.
